Application Engineer - Metering

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks an Application Engineer for our revenue and power quality metering product line. This individual will teach SEL metering technologies and train field engineers, customers, and business partners world wide. The application engineer will also guide SEL's metering research & development as a technical expert representing the end user. Responsibilities


Provide advanced technical support to field engineers, customers, and business partners related to metering and power quality areas.


Coordinate efforts with regional leaders to train, develop, and mentor field engineers and technical support staff.


Share technical knowledge by developing training materials, writing application guides, presenting technical papers, and supporting standards committees.


Assist customers, sales representatives, and application engineers in applying SEL meters through visits, demonstrations, and training courses.


Define customer needs and lead efforts to prepare innovative and cost-effective methods to meet them using distribution products and services.


Maintain an understanding of the end user, how they use the product, and identify and evaluate product line opportunities.


Contribute to product specifications, application guides, technical papers, testing, software, and literature.


Participate in the certification of SEL products with customers or other entities.


Participate in industry technical meetings, standards committees and conferences to represent SEL interests and identify key technical requirements for product planning.


Create product marketing information including datasheets, flyers, advertisements, sales kits, and product presentations.



Qualifications


B.S. in Electrical Engineering


Minimum five years work experience with electrical distribution power systems and automation.


Experience quoting, developing, designing, building and delivering complex metering and power quality monitoring systems and Energy Management Systems (EMS)


Knowledge of meter and power quality standards including ANSI, IEEE, IEC, MID, and CE


Experience in system integration and automation applications including communication protocols and technologies.


Experience in technical marketing and sales


Excellent technical presentation, speaking and writing skills


Willing to travel 50%



Preferred Qualifications


MS Degree in Engineering


Published and presented papers at major international technical conferences


Experience designing Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
